From Dance Championships to Business Psychology

27. Oktober 2016

Hello Oleksandra! Please tell us about yourself. Where are you from? What did you do before your Master’s degree?

Hello! I am from Ukraine and have lived in the capital Kiev for six years. For the last 17 years I was engaged in a successful sports career and have become World and European Champion in dance sport. At the same time, I was interested in psychology, so I completed my B.A. and M.A. in General Psychology at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kiev. During the last year, after I finished my dancing career, I gained experience in working as a HR manager, online marketing specialist and as a dance teacher.

Why did you choose to study at Media University and why did you go for Business Psychology?

I would like to gain more new experience in the field of psychology and to become a specialist in the applied field of business. Unfortunately, in my country there are no specialized programs as good as this one. Media University offers me the chance to learn something new and to develop myself in another country, understand the culture and to get to know new people. Media University provides the business psychology program in English and it was the best choice among all universities in Germany. I really liked the course description and believe that this degree will be very useful for me.

I enjoy our lectures, because we have small groups and you can speak with the lecturer directly.

What are the benefits of studying in Berlin?

Berlin is a city full of modern companies, which is invaluable for gaining experience. Here in Berlin I have a chance to get in touch with professors and working specialists and to get access to innovations and new methods, which I did not even know about before. As for me, Berlin is rich in culture and unusual things and everybody can find himself here. I enjoy walking the streets and sightseeing – it is another world and I am excited to be able to explore it.

How would you describe your experience at Media University so far?

I am happy to get acquainted with new people: they are so different, friendly and interesting, with their own point of views and openness to the new experience. I enjoy our lectures, because we have small groups and you can speak with the lecturer directly. I like the individual approach and structure of lectures: professors are trying to choose the topics that will be suitable for the interests of the group. We receive a huge amount of rare articles and I hope that in the future, I will be interested in business psychology even more than I am now.

What do you hope to gain from your degree?

I would like to discover something new and become valuable in the job market. To apply my knowledge of general psychology to this more applied field will give me a great opportunity to become a specialist.

What are you planning to do after you graduate?

During my studies I will try to complete an internship and after my graduation I will look for a job that I like. For me, the most important thing is to do what you enjoy everyday. I hope my future job will become a real joy for me.
