"I am doing what I do best: talking, entertaining and informing."

Strong communication skills and creativity: two qualities that a radio presenter should definitely have. Laura Fliegenschmidt has turned her passion for communication and music into a career and joined the Berlin radio station 98.8 KISS FM as a trainee.

What is the first thing that comes to your mind, when you think about Media University?

I think first of the mega delicious croissants in the cafeteria - just kidding ;) I think first of all of the many projects in which we were able to be creative.
We made a radio show, designed our own magazine and produced video contributions including filming, editing and sound.

You acquired a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Corporate Communications at Media University Berlin. What is your current job position?

I work as a presenter at the youth radio station 98.8 KISS FM. There I host the Drivetime from Monday to Friday together with my colleague Tolga. "Der Beat von Berlin mit Tolga und Lory" runs from 2-6pm. On Sundays from 12-14 o'clock you can hear me in the Kiss Classics Show.

Did you get any further work experiences prior to your current position that you would like to share with us?

After graduation, I did various internships, some of which led to a temporary job. These included radio stations, TV stations and various TV production companies.

When did you figure out your preferred career path? How much was your choice influenced by the compulsory internship?

My internship at another well-known Berlin radio station sparked my interest in radio.

Why did you decide to study “Journalism and Corporate Communications”? And what made you choose Media University Berlin?

I like to talk a lot, I can also express myself well in writing and communication is one of my strengths. Media University offered the opportunity to study in small groups in a practice-oriented and independent way - that convinced me to choose this study program.

 

Which contents of your studies are part of your current job? How do your studies help you in your work routine?

Definitely the course "Radio Journalism". When I started my traineeship at 98.8 KISS FM, I was able to combine theory and practice very easily.

What are your plans for the future?

What do you like most about your current job position? What is your biggest challenge?

I am doing what I do best: talking, entertaining and informing. Everything in combination with music - that' s just perfect for me.

Could you tell us more about the application phase after your graduation?

I found all my internships and jobs online, so do your research and take the initiative and you'll get a job!

What would you tell fellow students that study at Media University?

Be open, bold and creative! Just give it a try!

Which characteristics should students have that want to study „B.A. Journalism and Corporate Communications“?

You should be curious, creative, spontaneous, and of course communicative.
The most important thing: believe in yourself!
