TouchTex — remote interaction with smart textiles
The TouchTex research project is investigating how physical proximity can be experienced in real time by simulating touch, even over long distances, with the help of smart textiles.
Touch over distance thanks to smart textiles
The TouchTex project is developing smart textiles that can simulate touch over long distances. The aim is to convey physical closeness through pressure and electrical impulses in real time. The technology is initially being tested in a clinical context to improve patient contact, but could also be used in robotics or gaming. The gloves and sleeve covers detect touch intentions and reproduce them. The project runs from April 2023 to March 2026 and is funded by the BMBF
