Excursion to the Senckenberg Museum – Master’s course in design and research
Exploring design and researching through design: observing, analyzing, experimenting.
As part of the “Design and Research” seminar, the master’s course in Communication Design and Creative Strategies, led by Susanne Wieland, took a field trip to the Senckenberg Natural History Museum in Frankfurt. The aim was not only to reflect on design in theory, but also to experience it through direct observation and analysis in a museum context.
During a guided tour on the topic of insect biodiversity, the role of design in socio-ecological changes was discussed, among other things. This provided new insights into the effects of urban design on insects and allowed them to be viewed from a design-research perspective.
It became clear that design has a transformative effect when it is used in an investigative and interdisciplinary manner, thereby opening up new perspectives on change.
