Bathing, kiosks, and praying: New episode of “Plan TV” shows Cologne from all angles

September 8, 2025

In the “TV Journalism” module, Cologne students studying for a BA in Journalism and Corporate Communications produced a current edition of the MU classic “Plan TV.” The program, which was created under the direction of Prof. Bettina Lendzian and Heinz Hoppe, can be seen on August 12, 2025, at 11 am on NRWision and on Media-University.de.

In this episode of “Plan TV,” students show how you can spend the summer in Cologne doing sports completely free of charge. Whether it’s Brazilian combat dance or spikeball—you can try both, and we’ll tell you where and how. After training, of course, you need to cool off. But where, when swimming in the Rhine is notoriously dangerous? We present one of Cologne’s eleven swimming lakes as a safe alternative.

Another segment is dedicated to Cologne’s colorful kiosk culture. Why are kiosks more than just places to buy drinks or snacks for many Cologne residents? They are considered meeting places with a special atmosphere and an integral part of city life.

The students also tackle a sensitive and highly topical issue: a queer church in Cologne and the increasing hostility towards the queer community. To get to the bottom of the issue, they spoke to members of the church as well as the police.
